Green Adelaide’s Cooler, Greener, Wilder Grants are now open, offering metropolitan councils the opportunity to apply for a share in up to $1.5 million to deliver greening and cooling projects across Adelaide’s metropolitan environment.

Now in its third year, the grants program has already contributed to a number of successful environmental initiatives across metropolitan Adelaide, including the City of Burnside’s creation of Penfold Park, Port Adelaide Enfield improving the water quality, biodiversity and green space in Hillcrest, and the City of Adelaide’s revitalisation of Hindley Street.

Green Adelaide Presiding Member Professor Chris Daniels said the program is continuing to evolve in a way that best helps councils to deliver significant environmental outcomes for their local areas.

"We want to amplify the enormous efforts that councils are making, and to do that we’re so pleased to be able to offer Cooler, Greener, Wilder Grants that are bigger than ever before," Professor Daniels said.

"Councils can now apply for up to $500,000 in funding per project and have up to 4 years to deliver the project, and we’ve finessed the assessment criteria to make the process more streamlined for everyone involved.

“We are excited to be able to invest in the work of local councils and help them make their area cooler, greener and wilder.

“We know how valuable it is to make change at a local level, so we really encourage all 17 councils in Adelaide’s metropolitan area to explore our grants.”

The grants champions integrated projects that demonstrate multiple benefits across urban greening, water-sensitive urban design and biodiversity-sensitive urban design.

Successful applicants will need to contribute funding which Green Adelaide will match.

Projects that could be eligible include:

  • greening and cooling through increased planting of biodiverse vegetation (trees, shrubs and grasses) and other green infrastructure, including green walls.
  • installation of water-sensitive urban design assets such as stormwater inlets, tree pits, raingardens, permeable paving, constructed wetlands or stormwater management assets that contribute to urban greening initiatives

Applications for the Cooler, Greener, Wilder Grants close midnight on Sunday, 1 December 2024. Visit the grants webpage for more details.
