Adelaide was awarded the global status of National Park City on 10 December 2021. Adelaide National Park City Month is a way to publicly celebrate the status for Adelaide and connect everyone, everywhere and everyday to this movement.
Green Adelaide Presiding Member Professor Chris Daniels said the events will be held in the north, south, east and west of the city, as well as the city centre.
“We’ll also be launching the Adelaide National Park City artwork as a colourful large-scale mural at the Adelaide Airport later in the month.
“There are ways for everyone to enjoy and connect with nature this winter – including indoors, outdoors and online.”
Adelaide National Park City Month is also a taster of nature events in the lead up to Adelaide’s popular Nature Festival in October this year. The 2022 Nature Festival will mark its third year in South Australia. It will be jam-packed with hundreds of events to connect with nature and each other in creative ways.
Professor Daniels added that Adelaide received the prestigious title of National Park City last year as our city demonstrated to the international National Park City Foundation that nature is important to our city’s health and our future.
“We have 95 per cent of Adelaide residents only needing to travel around 400 metres to connect with an open, green area, and a range of diverse and iconic wildlife,” he said.
“Being recognised as a National Park City demonstrates how great Adelaide already is and highlights our ambition to strengthen Adelaide’s connection between people and nature, and to accelerate our journey to become cooler, healthier and more climate-resilient.
“We hope that Adelaide National Park City Month helps motivate more people to connect with and enjoy nature!”
Adelaide National Park City Month is being coordinated by Green Adelaide with events being held by Adelaide’s metropolitan councils as well as other partners between 1 and 30 June 2022.
